On March 18 2019, the Central Bank of The Bahamas will host its second Blockchain seminar, Blockchain & The Bahamas: “Raising the Bar”, with continued focus on The Bahamas’ Payments System Modernisation Initiative.

This event will provide updated information on “Project Sand Dollar”, The Bahamas digital currency project, and highlight broader domestic reforms that the Central Bank is targeting for the payments system. It will spotlight the Bank’s efforts to promote greater financial inclusion, while simultaneously reducing the economy’s reliance on cash transactions.

“In the interest of transparency and accountability the Heads of Agreement signed with Disney Island Development, Ltd on Thursday, March 7, 2019 will be tabled at the earliest meeting of the House of Assembly, on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

The government of The Bahamas signed a Heads of Agreement with Disney Island Development Ltd for a proposed cruise port and entertainment facility at Lighthouse Point, Bannerman Town, South Eleuthera.

The signing took place at the Cabinet Office in Nassau March 7, 2019.

Bahamas’ largest solar car park set to open – photos

A new solar car park project on New Providence is slated to be officially opened on March 18, 2019. DPM details Investment Funds Act overhaul – PDF

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest said in the House of Assembly yesterday that investment funds form a critical component of The Bahamas’ financial services toolkit and the legislation governing them needs to be updated.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest said investment funds form a critical component of The Bahamas’ financial services toolkit and the legislation governing them needs to be updated.

“As of 31st December 2018, there were 749 licensed investment funds and 62 licensed investment fund administrators in the jurisdiction,” DPM Turnquest explained in his address on the Investment Funds Bill, 2019 in the House of Assembly, March 8, 2019.
