Central Bank releases latest economic report

The domestic economy’s mild growth trajectory was maintained during September, according to The Central Bank of Bahamas’ latest Economic and Financial Developments report. Activity was underpinned by the ongoing gains in tourism, amid increases in high-end hotel inventory and airline seat capacity, while construction sector output was driven by several varied-scale foreign investment projects.

The Caribbean Association of Banks (CAB) is holding its 45th conference and AGM in The Bahamas this week, bringing together bankers from all over the region to discuss industry issues such as Fintech, financial inclusion, regulatory opportunities and trade disruptors.

Speaking ahead of the event, which takes place at the Melia Nassau Beach resort in Nassau until November 3, CAB general manager Mary Popo said the event’s theme ‘Banking in the Era of Digitalisation’ is a timely one.

The Bahamas is among the top five international destinations being sought by consumers, according to Travel Leaders Group travel advisors survey. The survey also showed a growing interest in adventure and speciality travel among respondents.

Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park wins conservation awardThe Marine Conservation Institute has announced that the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park in The Bahamas has earned a Platinum Global Ocean Refuge Award.

The institute made the announcement during the 2018 Our Ocean Conference being held in Bali, Indonesia, this week.

Joining a prestigious group of ten marine protected areas (MPAs) that comprise the Global Ocean Refuge System means that Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park meets the highest science-based standards for biodiversity protection and best practices for management and enforcement.
