The christening of a cruise ship Wednesday had Mayor Michael Bloomberg thinking about vacation.

Speaking aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s new 1,062-foot-long Norwegian Breakaway, which will sail out of the terminal on Manhattan’s West Side, Mr. Bloomberg promised the leaders of Bermuda and the Bahamas — both of whom were in the audience — that he would be spending much more time on their islands once his mayoralty ends on Dec. 31.

The billionaire mayor has fastidiously refused to discuss his weekend whereabouts and vacation locales during his 12-year run at City Hall. But he owns property in Bermuda and his company’s planes often fly there, as a Wall Street Journal investigation found.

The resort is in discussions with an investor and the Bahamian government, regarding the level of support and investment needed to move forward with the project.

Xavier Mufraggi, CEO of Club Med North America, said, “There are numerous challenges with operating in the remote Family Islands. If an agreement is reached by Club Med and Sand & Ocean Investments Ltd. with the government, the initial phase of the project would start in the fall.”
