The Role Of The Bahamas In Caricom: My perspective on Where We are Going
I would like to thank my hosts here at The University of the West Indies for inviting me to speak here today, and for their kind hospitality during my stay.

I want to thank the distinguished President of the Republic of Trinidad Tobago, His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona, and the Honourable Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for the warm welcome which they have extended to me and all the courtesies which have been extended to me and my delegation.

Silver Airways and All Nippon Airways (ANA) this week introduced their interline ticketing partnership allowing travelers to easily connect between the carriers' networks. Under the agreement, travellers will be able to purchase a single ticket for flights between Japan, China, Korea, and much of the Far East via ANA, its codeshare partners and Silver Airways to points throughout Florida and The Bahamas.

Silver ANAFORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 8, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Silver Airways, which offers more service between Florida cities than any other airline and more flights between Florida and The Bahamas than any other U.S. airline, and All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s leading airline group, this week introduced their interline ticketing partnership allowing travelers to easily connect between the carriers’ networks.

Under the agreement, travelers will be able to purchase a single ticket for flights between Japan, China, Korea, and much of the Far East via ANA, its codeshare partners and Silver Airways to points throughout Florida and The Bahamas. By booking single-ticket trips and combining flights on multiple carriers, customers also benefit from one-stop check-in and baggage check when they transfer between the airlines.

Seattle company to buy Tropical Shipping

Family-owned company Saltchuk, which owns Alaska shipping line Totem Ocean Trailer Express and trucking company Interstate Distribution, announced this week it will buy Tropical Shipping–a shipping, distribution and insurance company serving The Bahamas and the Caribbean.

During a recent country visit, Scotiabank’s senior vice president and head of the Caribbean region, Bruce Bowen, along with Scotiabank Bahamas’ managing director, Sean Albert, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Perry Christie.

Discussing the current banking environment in The Bahamas, the Scotiabank executives led dialogue on the financial sector’s performance given the economic conditions and projections for the near and medium term.

Bowen confirmed Scotiabank’s commitment to the Caribbean region, highlighting that the bank’s long successful history in The Bahamas affirms this market as a critical one for the bank.

Scotiabank was established in The Bahamas in 1956 and now operates 21 branches throughout the country.
