Bahamians awarded scholarships to study in China

A total of 18 students have been granted the opportunity to study in China through scholarships from the government of China and the Confucius Institute at the College of The Bahamas.

A total of sixteen Bahamians were awarded scholarships from the government of China, with a further two gaining scholarships from the Confucius Institute at The College of The Bahamas.

This marks the largest scholarship cluster since the programme’s inception and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in May 1997.

Justin Knowles and Lauren Russell, both College of The Bahamas students, have completed a summer internship at Andbank (Bahamas) Ltd, an Andorran-based, family-owned private bank that provides wealth and asset management.

Over the last twelve weeks, Knowles, an economics major, and Russell, who is studying banking and finance, worked closely with a team of private bankers, risk officers, compliance officers and other front and back office staff.

Baha Mar announced earlier this month that the grand opening of the $3.5-billion megaresort on Cable Beach will be postponed until spring 2015. Senior vice president of external affairs Robert Sands says that the resort will now have a phased opening, with selected guests being invited to the property from December this year.
