Court approves Baha Mar redundancy plan

Supreme Court of The Bahamas Justice Ian Winder has granted approval to the Baha Mar joint provisional liquidators’ request to make redundant approximately 2,000 employees, effective October 23.

www.alixpartners.com www.krys-global.comSupreme Court of The Bahamas Justice Ian Winder has granted approval to the Baha Mar joint provisional liquidators’ request to make redundant approximately 2,000 employees, effective October 23.

The joint provisional liquidators, Bahamas-based KRyS Global and UK-based AlixPartners, said the lay-offs were due to the financial insolvency of the $3.5 billion resort project that has been stalled since June 29.

The lay-offs affect approximately 1,440 non-active employees and approximately 580 active employees, including members of management and line staff.

The Cellular Liberalization Task Force has announced that Cable Bahamas Ltd is the successful applicant in the mobile spectrum auction, with a bid of $62.5 million.

The Cellular Liberalization Task Force has announced that Cable Bahamas Ltd (CBL) is the successful applicant in the mobile spectrum auction. This means that CBL is the only bidder to advance to the final pre-conditions for licencing for the country’s second mobile cellular network.

AIBT BFSBThe Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) and the Association of International Banks and Trust Companies in The Bahamas (AIBT) have joined forces to raise funds to assist the many Bahamians in the southern Bahamas who were left homeless or without any possessions in the wake of Hurricane Joaquin.

The country’s two major financial services organizations hope to raise thousands of dollars to help victims of the powerful storm which hovered over the southern Bahamas for almost two days and are now with almost $40,000 raised toward that goal.

World Travel AwardsWorld Travel Awards has landed in the Bahamas ahead of the Caribbean & North America Gala Ceremony 2015.

The ceremony is scheduled for this Saturday, October 17th, with hundreds of industry leaders expected to attend the event at Sandals Emerald Bay.

Final preparations are now underway at the resort, with hosts Andrew Kennedy and Anastagia Pierre set to star.

Entertainment on the night will be provided by Bahamian cultural institution The Crusaders Junkanoo Group, while a time honoured performance from The Royal Bahamas Police Force Pop Band will also wow guests.
