Cellular mobile network operator and service provider NewCo has appointed Damian Blackburn (pictured) as CEO and Barry Williams as CFO.

The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority recently awarded the cellular mobile network operator and service provider two licences lasting until 29 June 2031.

Cable Bahamas Ltd (CBL) will have a 48.25 per cent shareholding in NewCo as well as board and management control.

Commenting on his appointment, Blackburn said: “Newco will deliver innovation across its offerings here in the Bahamas. Twenty years’ experience within global telecommunications operators has brought me here to NewCo; I am no stranger to launching, leading and driving growth in new markets, for new entrant operators & creating opportunity.”

XXXXCommenting on his appointment, Williams (left) said: “I am delighted to bring over sixteen years of financial management experience gained in CBL to the NewCo operation. Through CBL’s investment in NewCo and the License award, we can drive future revenue and EBITDA growth, as we now have access to the $215 million domestic and visitor roaming mobile revenue market. Now with the preferred share placement issue, we can reinvest within the business to protect it, expand it and grow it.”

Bahamas-based GlobalNexus Ltd (GlobalNexus) has announced its entry into the telecommunications market with a subsea cable network providing high capacity connectivity between the Caribbean, Canada and the US.

As part of a regional tourism and health project, jointly funded by a grant from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Health have collaborated with the Caribbean Integrated Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in the interest of protecting the health and well-being of both tourists and locals.
