Ministries of Tourism and Health partner with regional agency

As part of a regional tourism and health project, jointly funded by a grant from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Health have collaborated with the Caribbean Integrated Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in the interest of protecting the health and well-being of both tourists and locals.

Cellular mobile network operator and service provider NewCo has appointed Damian Blackburn (pictured) as CEO and Barry Williams as CFO.

The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority recently awarded the cellular mobile network operator and service provider two licences lasting until 29 June 2031.

Cable Bahamas Ltd (CBL) will have a 48.25 per cent shareholding in NewCo as well as board and management control.

ALT TAG HEREIn early June 2016, the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) received notification from the Minister that it should proceed with the licensing of a new cellular mobile network operator and service provider, NewCo2015 Ltd (NewCo).

Cable Bahamas Ltd (CBL), as the successful applicant under the RFP process, will have a 48.25 per cent shareholding in NewCo as well as board and management control. A special purpose holding company set up by and currently wholly owned by the Government of The Bahamas, HoldingCo2015 Ltd (HoldingCo), will own the remaining 51.75 per cent of the shares of NewCo.

Hon. Perry Christie, emphasized that: “Given the harsh economic climate, we cannot afford the luxury of not maintaining tight control of the management of the peoples’ funds. More critically, we must be able to account for how that money is spent, so that all can understand what it was spent on, why the vendor was chosen and the expected benefits to be gained from that allocation.”

Commonwealth Bank shareholders unanimously elected former KPMG Senior Partner Tracy Knowles to the Board of Directors during the bank’s annual general meeting June 1.

Knowles is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and member of the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants. In his capacity as head of KPMG, Knowles had more than four decades of experience advising governments and industry on businesses and markets ranging from financial services to consumer markets, including hospitality, utility, government, manufacturing and real estate. His role in managing the business message particularly around utilities can be said to have affected every Bahamian and resident in the nation.
