C&W Communications has reached an agreement with Ericsson and Cisco to supply and install IP networks in three of the service provider's Caribbean markets, according to industry website Lightwave Online. Under the terms of the agreement, the technology suppliers will assist in the upgrade of C&W's IP backbone network in The Bahamas.

Cable & Wireless August 30, 2016 (Lightwave Online) – C&W Communications has reached an agreement with Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) to supply and install IP networks in three of the service provider’s Caribbean markets. The technology suppliers will assist in the upgrade of C&W’s IP backbone network in the Bahamas as well as the construction of a new business-to-business IP/MPLS network in Jamaica and Barbados.

Cisco will provide the hardware for the infrastructure enhancements, while Ericsson will provide project management services. The hardware includes Cisco routers and switches from the ASR9000, ASR900, and WR4500 families, backed by supply and installation of Cisco’s EPN-M network management system.

The College of The Bahamas will officially transition into the University of The Bahamas on November 10, 2016 – designated as the university’s official Charter Day – in fulfilment of a vision for higher education and the national development of The Bahamas expressed more than four decades ago.

Minister of Education, Science and Technology Jerome Fitzgerald made the announcement during a press conference held August 25 at the Harry C. Moore Library and Information Centre, located at The College’s Oakes Field Campus.

Brookfield Asset Management has announced the appointment of Howard C. Karawan as president and managing director of Atlantis Paradise Island resort in The Bahamas.

Karawan will succeed Paul Burke, who recently resigned from the position. Karawan will assume his new position on September 19, 2016.

ALT TAG HEREPink Sands Resort on Harbour Island is investing more than $3 million in upgrading the property – adding a new real estate component and renovating existing facilities.

The resort, one of the oldest on the small island off the coast of Eleuthera, is now beginning phase two of the project having renovated the main kitchen area, reception, gift shop, restaurant and several cottages. Under the second phase, nine cottages are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. The third and final phase will begin in January 2017 and see the remainder of the cottages completed.

Commonwealth Bank officially opened the doors to its new $800,000 corporate learning centre last month.

Located adjacent to its Prince Charles Branch on New Providence, the 8,740 sq ft single story building houses high-tech training facilities, including interactive digital and audio-visual equipment, and conference rooms.

“Service is what sets us apart, and that service does not come without constant reinforcement of its importance,” bank president Ian Jennings (pictured) said when the contract for the new learning centre was signed in late February.

World Expo 2020 logoThe government of The Bahamas has established a National Committee for the World Expo 2020, which will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from October 2020 to April 2021.

The committee will comprise of government agency officials, academics, and members of the private sector and civil society, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Fred Mitchell said during a press conference at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, August 25, 2016.
