Better Homes Real EstateBetter Homes & Gardens and its local franchise holder Mario Carey officially opened an office on Harbour Island, Eleuthera, December 29.

“We are excited to be in Harbour Island,” said Carey. “This is just the first Family Island office in our strategy to serve the entire Bahamas. We hope to have our office in Bimini open by the end of January and we plan to have offices in five Family Islands by the end of 2017.”

Carey, who became the first international franchisee for Better Homes & Gardens earlier this year, said he sees encouraging signs in the real-estate market.

Commonwealth Bank profits hit $47M

Commonwealth Bank recently reported profits of $47.3 million for the nine-month period ending September 30.

Commonwealth Bank recently reported profits of $47.3 million for the nine-month period ending September 30. The profits report reflected a 7.6 per cent increase over the same period one year ago when profits stood at $43.9 million.

Announcement of third quarter results was made by chairman William Sands Jr towards the end of last month.

The much anticipated Bill to provide for the implementation of the Common Standard on Reporting and due diligence for financial account information in tax matters and for connected purposes was passed unanimously in both Houses of Parliament.

Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited announced it has completed work on 20 cruise ships in 2016, and has bookings for at least 23 in 2017 for various refurbishment jobs.

Jobs in 2016 included significant propulsion and technical systems overhauls, hull treatment, accommodations and public spaces upgrades and the addition of onboard facilities, according to a prepared statement.
