Windsor High SchoolWhen the elite Windsor High School at Albany opens its glass doors for the first time today to an 80-strong student body, it will arguably become one of The Bahamas’ most prominent schools.

Boasting cutting-edge sports academies, a state-of-the-art recording studio and an academic curriculum, based on the Cambridge system, the school is setting its standards high.

For a few lucky local students the school provides generous scholarships. Fifteen per cent of the student body will receive scholarships.

The 25-acre, upper secondary school caters to students in grades 10 to 13 (US grades nine to 12), at a cost of around $19,000 per annum.

Bahamas retains Baa3 rating

Moody’s Investor Services has confirmed The Bahamas’ Baa3 credit rating August 25, but has changed the outlook from stable to negative.

Moody’s Investor Services has confirmed The Bahamas’ Baa3 credit rating—after initiating a review for downgrade on 6 July, 2017. Moody’s also left unchanged most of the risk ceilings for The Bahamas’ long-term and short-term financial obligations.

In justifying its decision, the rating agency highlighted the positive prospects of the government’s fiscal consolidation programme for debt stabilization; consistency in The Bahamas’ credit profile with other Baa3 rated-peers; and the limited liquidity pressures, despite higher borrowing requirements.

A team of scientists recently completed the Bahamas National Trust’s (BNT) annual survey of the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park.

The team assessed the health and biodiversity of reefs, mangroves and seagrass beds at 10 sites within the park and two outside. Most of the sites have been monitored periodically for 15 years.

The government of The Bahamas will inject almost $20 million into the capital development of the country's 39 constituencies over the next five years through its Constituency Capital Grant Programme.

The government of The Bahamas will inject almost $20 million into the capital development of the country’s 39 constituencies over the next five years through its Constituency Capital Grant Programme.

The Constituency Capital Grant Bill, 2017, came into force July 1, 2017, and provides for the allocation of Constituency Capital Grants in the amount of $100,000 per annum for each of the 39 constituencies throughout The Bahamas to facilitate development, and for connected purposes.

The Central Bank wishes to announce the appointment of Mr. Derek S. Rolle as Deputy Governor, with effect from September 1, 2017.

A 28 year veteran of the Central Bank, Mr. Rolle succeeds Mr. Michael Lightbourne, whose tenure as Deputy Governor ended on June 30, 2017. Mr. Rolle has served in various capacities within the Bank, most recently as Senior Manager and head of the Banking Department.
