The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Ltd today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Deutsche Bank’s Global Trust Solutions business, excluding its US operations. With client assets of around EUR 299 billion (as at June 30, 2017), Deutsche Bank’s Wealth Management business is one of the largest wealth managers worldwide.

ButterfieldHAMILTON, Bermuda–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited (“Butterfield”) (NYSE: NTB) (BSX: NTB) today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Deutsche Bank’s Global Trust Solutions (“GTS”) business, excluding its US operations. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Upon completion of the transaction, which is subject to regulatory approvals, Butterfield will take over the ongoing management and administration of the GTS portfolio, comprising approximately 1,000 trust structures for some 900 private clients. Butterfield is also offering positions to all employees who are fully dedicated to GTS in the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Switzerland, Singapore and Mauritius. This will ensure continuity of service for clients.

The 5th Annual Andros Business Outlook to be held October 26, 2017 at the Dreams Villas in Davis Creek will be under the theme ‘Break Barriers! Promote Success’.

The Minister of Labour Dion Foulkes (pictured) met with chairman of the Clearing Banks Association Ian Jennings and representatives of the six Clearing Banks in The Bahamas namely RBC Finco, Scotiabank, Fidelity Bank, Commonwealth Bank, Bank of The Bahamas and CIBC First Caribbean Bank 19 October, 2017 at the Ministry of Labour.

Under the theme ‘Strengthening the Rule of Law Through Technology’, Bahamas Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Carl Bethel, welcomed and addressed 52 attorneys general, law ministers, and delegates to the 2017 Meeting of Commonwealth Law Ministers, October 16, 2017 at the official opening ceremony at Baha Mar’s Convention Centre.

He said The Bahamas is pleased to host the meetings, bringing together a wealth of the strongest legal minds connected under the auspices of Great Britain’s network of nations.

“The meetings, which bring together attorneys general and law ministers from the 52 Commonwealth countries, are intended to facilitate discussions on legal and administrative issues of concern to member countries, and to the broader Commonwealth of nations and international community,” said the Attorney General.

Central Bank releases August economic report

Preliminary indications are that domestic economic growth remained relatively subdued, activity in the construction sector continued to be supported by FDI projects and ongoing hurricane reconstruction, and in the monetary sector, both liquidity and external reserves rose robustly.

Minister of State for Grand Bahama in the Office of the Prime Minister Kwasi Thompson says he plans to make Grand Bahama the centre of a technology hub in The Bahamas.

The Minister’s remarks came during a press conference at Pelican Bay resort October 16, 2017 to announce a technology conference in Grand Bahama November 9-10, 2017 at the Grand Lucayan.

“The technology industry can become a third pillar of our economy,” said Minister Thompson. “And that can begin right here in Grand Bahama. For years, we in Grand Bahama have been searching for industries which can diversify our economy and today is a very important step in that process.”

BIFS celebrates achievements

More than 150 financial professionals received accolades for their accomplishments at the 41st (BIFS) Annual Awards Ceremony at The Balmoral Club September 30, 2017.

Overall, 162 awardees were awarded for completion of programmes including formally-structured programmes and professional certification programmes.

Recipients reached beyond the financial arena and into other sectors including: the gaming, retail, government, education, hotel and medical sectors.

This year, the Institute had a number of achievements according to Jane Major, chairperson of the Education Committee.

“The institute has been able to complete its registration with the National Accreditation Equivalency Council (NAECOB),” she said. “This represents the first step towards the five-year process in obtaining the national accreditation.”

EYOct 11, 2017 (Bernews) – EY was recently honored as “Accounting Firm of the Year” at the Reactions North America Awards.

David Brown, Senior Partner of EY Bermuda Ltd. and Insurance Leader for Bermuda, Bahamas, the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands, accepts the 2017 “Accounting Firm of the Year” Award in New York.

“It was an honor to accept this award on behalf of EY and our global insurance and financial services practice,” David Brown said.
