Peter Turnquest, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest recently addressed the regional workshop “Rules-Based Fiscal Policy Frameworks for the Caribbean Region,” presented by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The two-day event was held at the British Colonial Hilton, December 4-5, 2017 and brought together stakeholders including representatives of the IDB, government, The Central Bank of The Bahamas officials and regional policymakers for finance.

Topics for discussion included – International Experience with Fiscal Rules: Criteria of Good Practice and Effectiveness, The Long View: Fiscal Anchors, Medium-Term Fiscal and Budget Frameworks and Growth, Fiscal Institutions to Ensure Fiscal Sustainability and Stability, Design and Implementation of Fiscal Rules, Stabilization Funds and Transparency, Credibility and the Role of Independent Fiscal Institutions.

STEP award winnersSociety of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) has announced 34 new award winners in its Worldwide Excellence Awards.

Launched in June 2016, the Awards run twice a year to celebrate the highest achievement in STEP qualifications globally.

The winners are the top achievers across STEP’s exams for the period January-July 2017.

Derek Rawlings TEP of Rawlinson & Hunter British Virgin Islands (BVI) won two awards, and was the highest scoring graduate in the STEP Diploma in International Trust Management.

The alliance of two of the world’s more significant luxury brands on Paradise Island, both of which are respected globally for their upscale luxury and exquisite service, will further assist The Bahamas in its ongoing efforts to establish itself as a global luxury destination, according to Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis.

Addressing the opening of the newly branded Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Resort, on Paradise Island (formerly the One and Only Ocean Club) December 1, the Prime Minister said: “Today is a new day for Ocean Club, blending its history and charm with the ultra-luxury brand that is Four Seasons. Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, is internationally known for its rich service culture, featuring personal service and attention to detail.”

Real estate development financing firm Sterling Global Financial has announced it is set to launch a new advisory arm, to be headed by former Bahamas Minister of Investments Khaalis Rolle.

Real estate development financing firm Sterling Global Financial has announced it is set to launch a new advisory arm, to be headed by former Bahamas Minister of Investments Khaalis Rolle.

The new company, Sterling Global Advisors Ltd, follows on the heels of Sterling’s launch last year of Sterling Bank & Trust (Bahamas) Ltd.

Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister Kwasi Thompson met with committee members and lecturers November 30 ahead of the launch of the Grand Bahama Micro and Small Business Empowerment Programme.

The Minister thanked them for participating in the programme, and added that their role is an important one.

WTAbahamas NASSAU, Bahamas – For the third consecutive year, The Bahamas has been named the Caribbean’s Leading Luxury Island Destination by the World Travel Awards (WTA) in the Caribbean and North America Category.

The Bahamas was also nominated for World’s Leading Cruise Destination and World’s Leading Wedding Destination.

The Bahamas surpassed Anguilla, Mustique, Saint Lucia and Turks & Caicos to capture the elite award. The Bahamas was also nominated for six categories in the region, including: the Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Destination, Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination, Caribbean’s Leading Dive Destination, Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination, Caribbean’s Leading Romantic Destination and Caribbean’s Leading Destination.

Bahamas Paradise Cruises to expand GB services

The Grand Celebration cruise vessel has renewed its agreement to sail to Grand Bahama, with scheduled trips from West Palm Beach resuming December 24. The introduction of a second vessel, the SS Grand Classica is scheduled to begin cruises to the island in April, 2018.

The Grand Celebration cruise vessel has renewed its agreement to sail to Grand Bahama, with scheduled trips from West Palm Beach resuming December 24. The introduction of a second vessel, the SS Grand Classica is scheduled to begin cruises to the island in April, 2018.

Prime Minister of The Bahamas Dr Hubert Minnis was at the agreement signing between the Government of The Bahamas and Bahamas Paradise Cruises held at the Grand Lucayan resort last weekend.
