The government of The Bahamas has said it will “respond aggressively” to recommendations made by the Ease of Doing Business Committee in an effort to address the global outlook on ease of doing business in The Bahamas.

The Ease of Doing Business Committee was appointed last year by Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis after a 2017 World Bank Annual Report listed The Bahamas as 119 out of 190 countries for ease of doing business.

The implementation of the Commercial Enterprises Act will assist Bahamians at home “and in the diaspora abroad” in the creation, and development, of small and medium-sized businesses, Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis said yesterday.

The Act was passed in the House of Assembly on November 22, 2017 and in the Senate on December 4, 2017.

Earlier this week, Minister of State for Grand Bahama Kwasi Thompson hosted investors Philip Ward and Mike Hayhurst, developers of a series of village-styled homes on marina-front lots in Deadman’s Reef that will be known as Seaward Fishing Village.

“We’re pleased to announce that they have already set out to engage local Bahamian contractors and purchase many of the materials locally,” said Minister Thompson.

Abaco ClubNEWTON, Massachusetts, January 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Southworth Development, the Boston-based company specializing in the development of residential resort real estate communities, announced today that it has assumed 100% ownership of The Abaco Club on Winding Bay. Southworth purchased the interest of the member-investor group that originally partnered with the company to acquire the club from Marriott Vacations Worldwide, which had operated the property as a Ritz-Carlton Club location, in December 2014.

The Abaco Club, which is located on Great Abaco Island, is a private club community featuring luxurious island homes, a 2.5-mile white-sand beach, the No. 1 golf course in The Bahamas, and a host of other five-star amenities.

Bahamas joins regional renewable energy initiativeThe Bahamas has joined a regional renewable energy initiative and has signed the Agreement Establishing the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE).

Darren Henfield, Bahamas Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed the agreement on behalf of the government of The Bahamas within the margins of the 41st Community Council of Ministers held at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana 15 January 2018.
