Cornèr BankAfter more than a year of extensive preparation, Cornèr Bank (Overseas) Ltd unveiled September 13 its new Cornèrtrader platform allowing Bahamians to enjoy direct access to buying and selling shares on the global financial markets, including the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.

According to Cornèr Bank (Overseas) CEO Christine Russell, gradual and measured liberalization of exchange control by The Central Bank of The Bahamas has paved the way for the right of Bahamians to invest in US markets by reducing cost of exchange.

Hero Motocorp extends sponsorship of Hero World Challenge

TGR Live and Tavistock Group have announced that India-based Hero MotoCorp has extended its title sponsorship of the Hero World Challenge. The 2018 Hero World Challenge golf tourney will be played at Albany, The Bahamas, November 29 – December 2, and will feature tournament host Tiger Woods and an invitation-only field comprised of the top ranked golfers in the world.

TGR Live and Tavistock Group have announced that India-based Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest manufacturer of two-wheelers, has extended its title sponsorship of the Hero World Challenge.

The 2018 Hero World Challenge will be played at Albany November 29 – December 2, and will feature tournament host Tiger Woods and an invitation-only field comprised of the top ranked golfers in the world.

Addressing the event this morning, Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest highlighted the difficulties of the current financial landscape, saying: “We operate in an environment of constant change. To stand among the best in the financial services industry there is no room for complacency. Complacency makes you obsolete and can threaten your access to markets. As a jurisdiction, we must be highly engaged, we must be robust and we must be effective in our enforcement of standards.”

Stopover visitor numbers up 15.2 per cent

Stopover visitor arrivals to The Bahamas were up 15.2 per cent for the first six months of this year, compared to the same period last year, according to government figures released last week.

The increase translates into an additional 110,000 visitors to the country during that timeframe.

Tourism officials estimate that an average stopover visitor to The Bahamas spends “north of $1,500” which would suggest that revenue during that timeframe, as a result of those stopover visits, was an estimated $165 million.

Forty-one participants of the Grand Bahama Micro and Small Business Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurial Incentive Programme Cohort III were awarded grants worth $180,000 during a press conference at the Office of the Prime Minister September 6, 2018.

Minister of State for Grand Bahama Minister Kwasi Thompson said that the government has a created a Small Business Development Centre which will start in New Providence, but will also have an office in Grand Bahama.
