Bahamas moves towards e-governmentMinister of State for Grand Bahama Kwasi Thompson and permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Elise Delancy recently participated in an executive training course for Caribbean policymakers and managers in Tallinn, Estonia, sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank.

The aim of the course, which ran October 15-19 in Estonia, was to provide Caribbean policymakers and managers with the necessary tools to develop and strengthen participating countries and nations’ capacities in digital government and make a wider and more efficient use of information technology in the public sector.

Bahamas Development Bank managing director Dave Smith along with deputy managing director Justin Sturrup paid a courtesy call on the Securities Commission to discuss the commission’s crowdfunding push and other potential capital raising instruments such as SMART Funds.

The bank executives met with Christina Rolle, executive director, Securities Commission and deputy manager Sherinn Munnings.

NASSAU, The Bahamas (Central Bank of The Bahamas) – A mission of the International Monetary Fund’s Statistics Department visited Nassau during October 16 – October 22, 2018, to assist the Bahamas with the implementation of the Enhanced General Data Dissemination System (e GDDS), which was endorsed by the IMF’s Executive Board in May 2015.

The mission supported the development of the National Summary Data Page (NSDP), which will be posted on the website of the Central Bank of The Bahamas, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Statistics. The page will utilize the Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX) and aims to serve as a one-stop publication vehicle for key macroeconomic and financial data.

Minister of State for Grand Bahama Kwasi Thompson launched the 2nd annual Grand Bahama Tech Summit last week, noting that the focus of the event will be on showcasing education programmes and future developments.

The Minister’s remarks came during an official launch during a press conference at Pelican Bay resort on October 10, 2018.

The Tech Summit is slated to take place in Freeport, Grand Bahama, November 14-16, 2018 at the Grand Lucayan resort.
