Japan, Bahamas look to amend TIEA

During a courtesy call on November 12 in Tokyo, The Bahamas and Japan exchanged diplomatic notes relating to the Protocol to amend the Tax Information Exchange Agreement between the to countries for the Exchange of Information for the purpose of the prevention of fiscal evasion and the allocation of rights of taxation with respect to income of individuals.

During a courtesy call on November 12 in Tokyo, The Bahamas and Japan exchanged diplomatic notes relating to the Protocol to amend the Tax Information Exchange Agreement between the to countries for the Exchange of Information for the purpose of the prevention of fiscal evasion and the allocation of rights of taxation with respect to income of individuals.

The Bahamas and Japan concluded a Tax Information Exchange Agreement in January, 2011.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest is attending the 11th Meeting of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes in Punta Del Este, Uruguay November 20-22.

Turnquest was invited to participate in a high-level panel discussion on the “Role of Tax Transparency in Enhancing Domestic Resource Mobilisation and Fighting Illicit Financial Flows”.

The Deputy Prime Minister was asked to give his view of international organizations such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Global Forum, and used the opportunity to again highlight how certain punitive measures used against small jurisdictions have a devastating often irreparable economic impact.

MOTA showcases Bahamas at World Travel MarketThe Islands Of The Bahamas were strongly promoted at this year’s World Travel Market, annually held at ExCel in East London. Top executives from the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation attended the travel show along with 24 tourism stakeholder representatives from Nassau, Eleuthera/Harbour Island and Exuma.

Director General of Tourism Joy Jibrilu, Deputy Director General Ellison ‘Tommy’ Thompson and other executives participated in a number of high level meetings and workshops with airline partners, travel agents, tour operators and media to promote the ease of travelling to The Islands Of The Bahamas and the increased number of developments throughout the destination.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of The Bahamas Peter Turnquest has officially opened the Bahamas Maritime Authority’s (BMA) new office in Tokyo.

The office will provide direct service to the Japanese maritime market, the world’s second largest in terms of vessel tonnage.

Royal Caribbean International’s “newly minted” Symphony of the Seas completed its inaugural voyage to The Bahamas with a call on the port of Nassau November 14, 2018.

Senior government officials, led by Minister of Tourism and Aviation Dionisio D’Aguilar, officials of the Ministry of Tourism and tourism industry stakeholders and partners, were among those on-hand to welcome the Symphony of the Seas to the Port of Nassau.

Minister of Health Duane Sands, Minister of Housing and the Environment Romauld Ferreira, and Minister of the Public Service and National Insurance Brensil Rolle, were among the senior government officials in attendance.
