Tiger Woods hosts Hero World Challenge press event

Golf legend Tiger Woods announced yesterday details of the upcoming 2018 Hero World Challenge tournament, which will be held at Albany for the fourth consecutive year.

The exclusive golf event of the world’s top-ranked golfers, November 29 to December 2, 2018 takes place at Albany for the fourth consecutive year.

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation helps coordinate the event and plays a major part in promoting and facilitating the tourney.

Tourism Minister bullish on 2019 prospects

A revitalized tourism product coupled with expanded airlift from major US carriers such as Delta and American Airlines are helping to drive tourism growth in The Bahamas, Minister of Tourism and Aviation Dionisio D’Aguilar said at his recent Year-End Report.

Minister D’Aguilar also announced that air bookings for the next three months (November 2018 to January 2019), are ahead by 9.2 per cent with international markets showing an advance in bookings.

Scheduled direct flights are set to increase 15.1 per cent during the same timeframe.

Forward bookings are also ahead for November-January (7 per cent) with “the top source cities with the most favourable booking situation being Detroit (42.7 per cent), New York City (38.6 per cent), and Atlanta (22.2 per cent),” D’Aguilar added.

Minister for Grand Bahama Kwasi Thompson has updated the public on the renovation plans for the Grand Lucayan hotel and resort in Freeport.

Speaking at an event held at the Garnet Lavarity Justice Center November 26 he said:

“I am pleased to update the public that the government has also agreed to over $3 million for immediate repairs to the Grand Lucayan particularly the income generating Lighthouse Pointe, the Convention Centre and the Breaker’s Cay roof and Central Air Conditioning System, which services the entire resort to prepare for the upcoming season.”

Prime Minister Hubert Minnis has tabled the first Fiscal Strategy Report in the House of Assembly.

During the morning session November 21, the Prime Minister said: “Putting the nation’s fiscal house in order is a clear prerequisite to a more buoyant private sector and stronger job growth.”

According to the Prime Minister, such reporting serves the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance.
