Officials at the Nassau Airport Development Co (NAD) are seeking proponents to design, finance, construct and operate an on-site hotel at Lynden Pindling International Airport.

On January 21, the company will issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) document outlining details required to bid on the proposed airport hotel project. Final proposal submissions will be due May 24, 2019.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest reflected on the changes made by the Finance Ministry in 2018, as well as those on the horizon, during a Leadership Symposium hosted by the Public Treasury Department for Accounting Heads and Finance and Accounting Officers.

“I am thinking of Fiscal Responsibility Legislation, in particular. The Fiscal Responsibly Act, 2018, is a great metaphor for the changes because it stands for a new era of transparency, accountability, inclusivity, stability and forward planning,” DPM Turnquest said January 11 event held at the British Colonial Hilton.

American AirlinesThe Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation’s Airlift Team took the opportunity to meet with American Airlines’s newly appointed senior regional manager – Caribbean, Wellesley Joseph and Caroline Hollingsworth, AA’s Bahamas country manager, in Nassau.

The group met to discuss key issues affecting the partnership between AA and The Bahamas, not the least of which is the enhancement of the customer experience.

Baleària to operate faster ferry to Freeport from Florida – video

The shipping company Baleària Caribbean will be adding the fast ferry Jaume II to the route between Fort Lauderdale and Freeport, Grand Bahama to replace the Jaume I as of mid-January.

The shipping company Baleària Caribbean will be adding the fast ferry Jaume II to the route between Fort Lauderdale and Freeport, Grand Bahama to replace the Jaume I as of mid-January. Jaume II was re-engined in 2017 for greater energy efficiency and service reliability as well as a higher speed. This fast ferry sails at 35 knots and will complete the route in two and a half hours. The first trip will be during this month, departing at 8 a.m. from the Fort Lauderdale port for Freeport.

The ‘Jaume II’, which will replace the ‘Jaume I’, also has a similar capacity at 600 passengers and can sail at a speed of 35 knots.

The Ministry of Finance will roll out a provisional business license in the New Year to significantly reduce the time it takes to start a new business. This addition was approved by Parliament during the 2018/2019 budget exercise, and will be implemented by the Department of Inland Revenue in the first quarter of 2019.
