US trade mission visits Bahamas

Members of the Washington, DC Chamber of Commerce were hosted to a welcome networking reception at Luciano’s of Chicago on the first day of their trade mission to The Bahamas, which runs April 29-May 2, 2019.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest gave a welcome address.

Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy Stephanie Bowers and CEO of the Washington DC Chamber of Commerce, Vincent Orange were present.

The trade mission also made a courtesy call on Governor General Dame Marguerite Pindling on April 30, at Government House along with members of The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation.

LPIA sees 75,000+ passengers over Easter

Projected numbers for the five-day period April 18-22 estimate that more than 75,000 passengers moved through the three terminal buildings at Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau.

Projected numbers for the five-day period April 18-22 estimate that more than 75,000 passengers moved through the three terminal buildings at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) in Nassau.

Some 27,000 passengers were processed through the US Departures pre-clearance facility and Bahamas Immigration and Bahamas Customs processed more than 30,000 arriving passengers over the Easter weekend.

Here follows his remarks:

I’m very pleased to see the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) continue its efforts to strengthen our Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) framework by upgrading its digital infrastructure, strengthening its processes, and most importantly empowering its personnel and partners through training and stakeholder engagement.

Royal Fidelity Merchant Bank & Trust has announced that it served as Co-Placement Agent with CIBC World Markets Corp, New York to the Nassau Airport Development Co (NAD) in its recently completed Placement of $134,750,000 in participating debt notes.

Royal Fidelity also acted as sole Escrow Agent for the deal. NAD is the government selected company that manages the development and operation of the Lynden Pindling International Airport.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Darren Henfield led a delegation from The Bahamas to Miami, Florida, for a one-day Ministerial Meeting that resulted in the launch of the US-Caribbean Resilience Partnership April 12, 2019.

The Meeting, which took place at the US Southern Command headquarters in Miami, was hosted by US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, who led an interagency team of US senior officials and experts.
