MOTA exhibits in China trade show

On May 15th-17th, 2019, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation participated in ITB China 2019 in Shanghai. The Bahamas, which attended China’s B2B tourism industry exhibition for the first time this year, used its unique booth, enthusiastic speeches and fun interactive activities to show its audience the unique charm of the Caribbean country.

Paul Strachan, Senior Director Canada of Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, delivered a keynote speech at the ITB Speech Center on “The Islands Of The Bahamas, The Perfect Island Travel Destination” and received great feedback.

OPIC concludes regional tour

A high-level delegation from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, which is the US government’s development finance institution, has concluded a trip to the Caribbean region to discuss opportunities for US investment in infrastructure, energy, water, and women’s economic empowerment.

PM discusses US investment

Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis held “productive discussions” with senior officials of the Overseas Private Investment Corp (OPIC) and the US Embassy at the Office of the Prime Minister 20 May.

The visit by OPIC follows a meeting between US President Donald Trump and a group of Caribbean leaders in March, when a greater role for OPIC in the region was discussed, and the President committed to foster economic growth and strengthen security cooperation in the Caribbean region.

“We are encouraged by these talks and the possible opportunities it may present for The Bahamas, particularly in the areas of energy and entrepreneurship,” said Prime Minister Minnis following the meeting.

Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis will deliver his third report to the nation on Monday 20 May, at 8pm.

The prime-time address will be carried on television and radio and is the final in a series of reports of this kind for 2019. The reports are aimed at providing important updates and information to the people of The Bahamas on a range of issues.

In his third report, Prime Minister Minnis will update the public on matters related to land reform, the environment, energy reform, general infrastructure and digital transformation and modernization.

Bahamas to host US investment delegationOverseas Private Investment Corp (OPIC), the US government’s development finance institution, acting president and chief executive officer David Bohigian will travel to The Bahamas, Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and St. Lucia May 19-22.

Bohigian is leading a high-level OPIC delegation to the Caribbean region to explore investment opportunities in energy and other critical sectors, as well as strengthen relationships with countries that are key partners in fostering stability and security in the Western Hemisphere.

NAD begins demolition of old terminal at LPIA

Nassau Airport Development Co began a phased demolition of the former domestic and international terminal building at Lynden Pindling International Airport last week. The work is scheduled to take around 10 weeks.

Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) began a phased demolition of the former domestic and international terminal building at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) last week.

NAD’s maintenance and engineering department is spearheading the project and estimates a 10-week timeline for the initiative.
