Tourism Ministry hosts MICE conference

The inaugural Destination Bahamas Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events ( MICE) Exchange Conference welcomed 30 international incentive travel partners earlier this month, giving them the opportunity to experience The Bahamas firsthand.

The conference, which took place during the first week of June, was hosted at Baha Mar by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (BMOTA) and led by BMOTA’s Director of Group Sales, North America, Janet Johnson-Cuffie.

A group of over 200 travel agents converged on Freeport, Grand Bahama over the weekend as part of The Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line’s promotion and industry seminar event.

A group of over 200 travel agents converged on Freeport, Grand Bahama over the weekend as part of The Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line’s (BPCL) promotion and industry seminar event.

The travel agent event was jointly sponsored and hosted by BPCL and the sales team of The Bahamas Tourist Office (BTO), Florida, who were joined by local stakeholders including BTO’s Grand Bahama branch and various hotels and resorts.

The ceremonies were well-attended by officials, including Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis, and numerous family and friends.

Caribbean ExportTrade promotion group Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export), in partnership with German development agency GIZ, recently supported a number of CARIFORUM businesses at the Jamaica International Exhibition (JIE), assisting small firms in targeting new markets and building brand awareness throughout the region and beyond.

The JIE, held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre last month, gave several small firms from across the region a chance to network, gain feedback on their products and increase their brand exposure.

The Bahamas continues to exhibit a level of tourism sector performance that has translated into positive economic growth for the country, Minister of Tourism and Aviation Dionisio D’Aguilar told Parliament last week.

There have been historic increases in overall foreign visitor arrivals –– stopover visitors and cruise visitors in 2018.

The Cabinet Office has announced that Brian Moree, QC, will be the chief justice of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas with effect from 12 June 2019.

In a press release, the Cabinet Office stated that in accordance with Article 94 (1) of the Constitution of The Bahamas, Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis, after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition, has advised Governor General Dame Marguerite Pindling to appoint Moree, as chief justice of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas with effect from 12 June 2019.

The Central Bank of The Bahamas enters into an official agreement with NZIA Limited to design and implement a digital version of the Bahamian dollar.

Exuma Island has been selected to pilot this digital version of the Bahamian dollar. The lessons learnt in Exuma will allow the Bank to deploy the digital currency throughout The Bahamas.
