Larry King stock photoNassau’s Doctors Hospital expects to welcome more international patients as its innovative new treatment for prostate cancer features on the Discovery Channel’s Larry King Profile Series.

The programme, which aired last month, shows a team of doctors performing High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)—a minimally invasive procedure for prostate cancer that is not currently available in the United States.

Since 2008, more than 500 patients have undergone HIFU at Doctors Hospital which is hoping more international patients will make the trip as the breakthrough procedure gains attention worldwide.

The OECD presented plans for a two-pronged attack on tax avoidance and evasion from both companies and individuals to G20 finance ministers. The Finance Ministers met in Moscow, July 19-20.

20/07/13 – The OECD today presented to G20 finance ministers plans for a two-pronged attack on tax avoidance and evasion from both companies and individuals. The Finance Ministers are meeting in Moscow, Jul y 19-20.

Complementing its Action Plan on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting by companies, the OECD provided ministers with a proposal to increase international tax cooperation and transparency through the promotion of automatic exchange of information between jurisdictions.

ALT TAG HEREAs the UK was braced for tropical weather with storms on the way, punters decided a bet on an oil explorer in the Bahamas was appropriate yesterday. Bahamas Petroleum gushed as much as 20 per cent in morning trade on news that it had got its licences renewed and extended by the Bahamas Government and the Ministry of the Environment.

Investors think the forecast is now much sunnier for Bahamas following a stormy 2012 for the AIM-listed explorer. The ruling party on the Atlantic Ocean island had not been in favour of oil exploration and when Bahamas’ licences ran out last year there were fears they would not be renewed. But a new government in September deferred a referendum on drilling in the area.

19/07/13 – The OECD has released its Action Plan on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS), offering a global roadmap that will allow governments to collect the tax revenue they need to serve their citizens. It also gives businesses the certainty they need to invest and grow. The Report reportedly was produced at the request of the G20 and introduced at the recent G20 Finance Ministers’ meeting in Moscow. It identifies 15 specific actions that will give governments the domestic and international instruments to prevent corporations from paying little or no taxes.

BPC Logo22 July 2013 (StockMarketWire.com) — Bahamas Petroleum [LON:BPC] was one of the sector’s biggest risers after five licences were renewed for a further three years with an obligation to start drilling an exploration well by April 2015.

The company expects to meet this obligation, subject to financing via a farm-out agreement, with an exploration well in the southern licences anticipated in the second half of 2014. The licences nominally comprise four three-year terms.
