Sunwing announces new direct flights to GB

Sunwing tour operator has announced new direct service to Grand Bahama from six cities across Canada. Starting January 16, 2014, Sunwing will be offering weekly winter service from Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Edmonton to Freeport, Grand Bahama, along with year round flights from Toronto.

Bahamas FerriesThe government of The Bahamas and Bahamas Fast Ferries are in discussions on the startup of a service that will connect Grand Bahama, Abaco, Eleuthera and New Providence.

Prime Minister Perry Christie was in Grand Bahama August 16 to meet with chairman of Bahamas Fast Ferries Craig Symonette, to discuss the project.

Christie and Symonette visited the site along with Transport and Aviation Minister Glenys Hanna Martin; Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe; Minister for Grand Bahama Michael Darville; Education Minister Jerome Fitzgerald; and Khaalis Rolle, Minister of State for Investment in the Office of the Prime Minister.

Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe and the new management team at the Ministry recently took a tour of the Baha Mar development on Cable Beach.

The group participated in a tour of the construction site, gaining a first-hand perspective of the scale and potential impact of the multi-billion dollar project.

The tour was followed by discussions regarding steps to enhancing the country’s appeal to tourists and collaborative possibilities with the Ministry of Tourism, such as the Ministry’s renewed promotional activities in New York City.

The 2013 International Pharmacy Conference, which was held at Atlantis Paradise Island and was attended by professionals from around 40 different countries, came to an end this week. Watch a ZNS Network news report here.

Work has begun on the LJM Maritime Academy, named after founder Lowell J Mortimer OBE, with dignitaries attending a cornerstone laying ceremony on Maritime Cay, August 15, 2013.

The LJM Academy was officially launched in November 2012 and when completed will be a state-of-the-art training facility for Bahamian maritime professionals.
