MACOct 14/2013 (FanSided) — Whether you like the amount of bowl games that currently exist during the holiday season in college football or not, it doesn’t see as if the expansion will be stopping any time soon. And today, another one will be officially added, which won’t exactly be in your run-of-the-mill, traditional college football location.

The MAC–affectionately known to all of us though, as #MACtion–has announced the creation of the Bahamas Bowl, beginning next season in 2014. This game will actually rotate between the MAC, American Athletic and Mountain West conferences from year to year.

After suffering seriously during the downturn, the Caribbean real estate market seems to be picking up steam. That’s true on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, where a new project called French Leave Harbour Village has already completed several units. To learn more about what’s going on in Eleuthera and the Bahamas, CaribJournal.com talked to Eddie Lauth, CEO of Shaner Bahamas, which is developing French Leave Harbour Village, a 37-unit project that the company says is the first group of “authentic” cottages to be developed on Governor’s Harbour since the 1940s.

Breezes LogoBreezes Bahamas recently completed a “refreshing” of all 391 guest rooms at the property in Nassau. The changes included new soft furnishings and renovated bathrooms. Breezes also updated its lobby and entertainment area and the 1,400-square-foot Ocean View Suite meeting room, which can now accommodate 100 people banquiet-style.

The company also said the resort offered free in-room Wi-Fi and throughout the property. The property is located on Cable Beach in New Providence. The cost of the project was not disclosed.

David McLaughlinLegendary race cars from all over the world are lining up to take part in this year’s Bahamas Speed Week Revival, which the Ministry of Tourism hopes will significantly boost the country’s growing sports tourism niche.

This year’s event runs December 4-8 and is headquartered at Arawak Cay.

According to event co-founder and director David McLaughlin (left, Photo Harry Cutting/©Dupuch) there has been a lot of interest in the event from abroad with cars from the UK, Belgium, Switzerland and Austria registering to take part–the highlight of which is a 1965 red Ferrari Dino ,which was driven by the famous Rodriguez brothers in the early 1960s.

The 2014 programme includes sprints and time trials at Fort Charlotte and an island tour, during which the historic cars journey around New Providence. For the first time, this year’s event will also feature a tour of the island’s Mini Coopers.

The Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) has announced that the Blue Ribbon Panel appointed for this year’s Industry Excellence Awards held its first meeting to consider the nominations received for the annual awards programme last week.

The Industry Excellence Awards Programme, co-sponsored by BFSB and the Professional Industry Associations, recognizes outstanding industry practitioners in a number of categories, including Executive of the Year, Mentor of the Year, Professional of the Year, and Achiever of the Year.

China, Bahamas sign technical agreement

An Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed between The Bahamas and the People’s Republic of China during a special ceremony, October 16. Funds to be extended by China under the agreement now total $13 million.
