BFSB to host captive insurance basics seminar

BORCO to get Canadian crudes

Buckeye Partners is setting up its BORCO terminal in Freeport, Grand Bahama, to become a staging and blending center for heavy Canadian crudes, the midstream company's top managers said Friday.

Buckeye Partners is setting up its BORCO terminal in the Bahamas to become a staging and blending center for heavy Canadian crudes, the midstream company’s top managers said Friday.

The company is in talks with Canadian crude suppliers and producers and will retrofit some BORCO storage tanks this quarter with the heating capabilities needed to handle heavy, viscous crudes, Khalid Muslih, Buckeye’s president of international pipelines and terminals, said during a quarterly earnings call.

It was the occasion of the 13th Annual FSI Excellence Awards Dinner, and the 31 represented nominees in the categories of “Executive of the Year”, “Mentor of the Year”, “Professional of the Year”, “Achiever of the Year”, and “FSI Student of the Year”.

The Bahamas will be hosting the 38th Plenary Meeting of the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) in Freeport, Grand Bahama, November 18-21, 2013.

The CFATF is an organization of 29 states in the Caribbean basin that have agreed to implement common counter measures to address the problem of money laundering.

The main objective of the CFATF is to achieve effective implementation of and compliance with the Financial Action Task Force’s 40 Recommendations to prevent money laundering and to combat the financing of terrorism.

Bahamas GamingThe Bahamas is aiming to become a leader in the gaming industry in the region, Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe said during an address to the Caribbean Gaming Forum held at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort October 28-30.

The government proposes to revolutionize the gaming industry in the country through a new Gaming Bill, which is being debated in the House of Assembly.

“The truth is, we want Bahamians to be able to occupy every possible office within the sector, and we are working diligently to ensure that Bahamians will sooner rather than later be owners of casinos and owners of the gaming industry of The Bahamas,” Wilchcombe said.

The forum was held by The Gaming Board in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism, and organized by the International Governance and Risk Institute, a UK-based firm specializing in training and consultancy to improve regulation and combat financial crime.

Ultrapetrol (Bahamas) LimitedNASSAU, Bahamas, Oct. 31, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Ultrapetrol (Bahamas) Limited (Nasdaq:ULTR), an industrial transportation company serving marine transportation needs in three markets (River Business, Offshore Supply Business, and Ocean Business), announced today it has taken delivery on October 29th, 2013 of two new Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) of the 4,500 Class type powered by diesel electric engines, DP2, FiFi1, directly from the building yard in China which have cost about $32.0 million each. The Company initially has funded the vessel purchases with its own cash. Ultrapetrol also exercised an option to purchase a sister vessel on identical terms and conditions. Following delivery of this additional vessel, which is expected in the fourth quarter, Ultrapetrol’s PSV delivered fleet will increase to 14 vessels.
