President Barack Obama is nominating a former White House lawyer, Cassandra Butts, to be the next U.S. ambassador to The Bahamas.

Butts served as deputy White House counsel during Obama’s first year in office. She was also general counsel for the White House transition team during Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.

Butts left the White House to serve as a senior adviser to an independent U.S. foreign aid agency, the Millennium Challenge Corp. She previously worked as an adviser to Democratic congressman Dick Gephardt of Missouri, who also served as the Democratic leader of the House.

PARSIPPANY, N.J., Feb. 9, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Avis Budget Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:CAR) last week announced that it has signed a new partnership agreement with Silver Airways, a U.S.-owned and operated airline with nearly 200 daily scheduled flights.

Under the exclusive agreement, Avis Car Rental and Budget Car Rental will be designated as Silver Airways’ preferred car rental providers and Silver Airways travelers will receive car rental savings when they rent Avis or Budget vehicles. In addition, Silver Airways travelers will have the opportunity to make Avis and Budget car rental reservations directly on the Silver Airways website, or via phone as part of the call transfer program between the two companies.

The Global Financial Summit opened last week at Atlantis Paradise Island, with the conference’s founder telling attendees that, despite some volatility, there are opportunities in the markets for savvy investors.

While the stock market may still be recovering from the 2008 global financial crisis, there are still areas of growth according to economist Mark Skousen, who advised investors to explore M&As.

“We are moving towards a bear market in 2014. The slowdown is going to continue,” he said. “[However] Merger and acquisition activity is going to really pick up. It is starting to make a come back and 2014 will see a lot of M&As.”
