RBC Royal Bank held its 4th Annual RBC Client Appreciation & Invitational Golf Tournament March 25.

Participants, including RBC clients and business partners, enjoyed a day of exciting golf and friendly competition at the Ocean Club Golf Course. RBC established the tournament as a way to thank clients and make a significant impact on local charities.

Prime Minister Perry Christie said this week that he is in discussions with the operators of the Freeport Container Port, with a view to a possible $250 million expansion of that multi-million dollar facility.

The Prime Minister was participating in the opening of the Memories Grand Bahama Beach Resort and Casino March 24.

Christie said as his government is resolute on the revival of the Grand Bahama economy, advancing tourism and focusing on the industrial and other related sectors of the broader economy.

“I am pleased to confirm that positive conversations have taken place between me and my representatives, the principals of Hutchison, MSC Shipping and the Grand Bahama Port Authority on a $250 million expansion of the Freeport Container Port,” he said at the opening event.

The developers of the $3.5 billion Baha Mar resort in The Bahamas released renderings of four of the project’s five hotels as well as an exterior rendering of the resort’s convention center.

The illustrations included renderings of the 1,000-room Baha Mar Casino & Hotel, the 200-room Rosewood, the 300-room Mondrian and the 700-room Grand Hyatt.

The Bahamas’ ecotourism industry received a boost last week with the official opening of the Primeval Forest National Park on New Providence.

Established in 2002, the 7.5-acre park was previously inaccessible to visitors, but is now open to the public and has new facilities such as walking trails and a visitor’s centre. The site is an ancient tropical hardwood forest, undisturbed by development. It contains intricate limestone formations, sinkholes and diverse flora and fauna.

Minister of National Security Dr Bernard Nottage (left) opened the park on behalf of Prime Minister Perry Christie, who was overseas on another engagement. Dr Nottage praised the collaborative effort of the Bahamas National Trust (BNT), the government and private donors in establishing the park and spoke of how it would benefit the economy.

“A visit to the Primeval Forest will give our visitors a first hand experience–something a geology book cannot do. These parks provide opportunities for ecotourism, which provide income for Bahamians,” he said.
