Baha Mar on track for spring opening

Delivering a progress report to the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants yesterday, senior vice president of administration and external relations at Baha Mar Robert Sands said that the multi-billion dollar resort is on track to open by the end of spring 2015.

Senior vice president of administration and external relations at Baha Mar Robert Sands says the multi-billion dollar resort is on track to open to guests by the end of spring 2015.

Sandy SandsOver the next 20 years, the Cable Beach megaresort is expected to make a “substantial” impact on the Bahamian economy, creating 12,000 jobs, contributing $5.5 billion in government tax revenue and increasing the country’s gross domestic product to $15.9 billion, according to Sands (right).

Prime Minister Perry Christie gave the keynote address at the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants forum for Accountants Week 2014 at Melia Nassau Beach, November 11.

The theme of the conference was “Nation Building, Serving our Community and Profession.”

Businesses were able to exhibit their services at the forum.

A new baseball stadium will be completed in Nassau next year.

The stadium will be named after Bahamian baseball great, Kenneth Andre Ian Rodgers–the first Bahamian to play US Major League Baseball.

Rodgers played primarily shortstop for the Giants, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with China’s ambassador Yuan Guisen, and representatives from the Embassy of The People’s Republic of China, held a ceremony at the Foreign Affairs Ministry November 7.

Recently named number seven on Travel+Leisure’s list for the World’s Best Hotels for Families, Atlantis Paradise Island falls in the top tier of family favorites for hotels in the Caribbean, Bermuda and The Bahamas.

Prime Minister Perry Christie was in Grand Bahama November 10 for the opening of the Global Leadership Forum, an event organized by Dr Myles Munroe, who died in plane accident at the weekend.

The Prime Minister joined in paying tribute to the event founder and host.

The conference runs through November 12. The featured speaker at the three-day event is ambassador Andrew Young, former Mayor of Atlanta and UN ambassador, civil rights leader and an ordained pastor in the US.

Central Bank releases MEFD September 2014

Indications are that the Bahamian economy’s mildly positive growth pace was sustained during the review month, supported by an improving tourism performance and foreign investment related construction activity, according to The Central Bank of The Bahamas' Monthly Economic and Financial Developments report for September released last week.
