It is both an honour and a privilege for me to be in Havana attending this Fifth CARICOM-Cuba Summit and may I add the first Prime Minister of The Bahamas to do so in an official capacity.

Prime Minister Perry Christie is in Havana, Cuba, this week to address the fifth Cuba-CARICOM Summit. Accompanying the Prime Minister are the Minister for Financial Services and International Trade Ryan Pinder and State Minister for Investment in the Office of the Prime Minister Khaalis Rolle.

United Airlines has announced additional nonstop flights from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS). SkyWest Airlines will operate the United Express flights using Canadair CRJ700 regional jet aircraft with 70 seats.

The Bahamas Financial Services Board recently hosted a half-day insurance industry briefing in collaboration with the Insurance Commission of The Bahamas, the Ministry of Financial Services and the Insurance Institute of The Bahamas.

The Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) recently hosted a half-day insurance industry briefing in collaboration with the Insurance Commission of The Bahamas, the Ministry of Financial Services and the Insurance Institute of The Bahamas.

Peter Strauss, managing member of the South Carolina-based Strauss Law firm, spoke to “Captives Post Formation,” focussing on the operations of a captive insurance company.

It has been four years since the BIFS partnered with UK’s Bangor University, firstly through their sponsorship of the 19th World Conference of Banking and Finance Institutes hosted by the Institute in 2011 and secondly through a MBA for BIFS to offer to industry professionals.

The Chartered Banker MBA programme is specially tailored to working professionals and available through a blended online learning platform.

Quantum of the Seas docks in Nassau

The Bahamas welcomed the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line‘s Quantum of the Seas at the Inaugural Call on Nassau at Prince George Dock November 27, 2014.

On hand to greet the luxury liner were director general of tourism Joy Jibrilu, officials of the Port Department, Bahamas Customs Department, Immigration Department, Port Agent at United Shipping Andrew Malone and other officials.

A plaque exchange ceremony took place onboard the vessel, during which the Jibrilu underscored the importance of the ship’s inaugural visit to Nassau.

The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and The Republic of Cuba celebrated 40 years of diplomatic relations with a reception held at Hotel RIU Palace Paradise Island November 24.

The Bahamas and Cuba officially established diplomatic relations November 30, 1974 and since then, the two countries have signed a number of agreements beneficial to both countries.
