The Steering Committee of the International Monetary Fund’s Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Center (CARTAC) welcomed the progress of the centre in scaling-up the delivery of technical assistance since the last meeting in May 2014, according to a recent press release from the IMF. Members of the Committee met yesterday in Nassau.

CARTACDecember 10, 2014 (IMF) – The Steering Committee of the International Monetary Fund’s Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Center (CARTAC) welcomed the progress of the Center in scaling-up the delivery of technical assistance (TA) since the last meeting in May 2014 (See Press Release No. 14/210).

Members of the Steering Committee met today in Nassau, The Bahamas. At the end of the meeting, Bank of Jamaica Governor and Chairman of the CARTAC Steering Committee Brian Wynter, and the recently appointed CARTAC Coordinator, David Kloeden, made the following joint statement:

Ryan Pinder announced yesterday that he is stepping down from his post as Minister of Financial Services with effect at the end of this year. The international tax lawyer will remain a member of Parliament and has accepted a position with the Deltec banking group. Watch a ZNS Network news report here.

FS Minister Pinder resigns

Ryan Pinder has resigned from his position as Financial Services Minister, according to the Cabinet Office.

The Cabinet Office has announced that Prime Minister Perry Christie has accepted the resignation of Ryan Pinder as the Minister of Financial Services.

Pinder will be taking up a senior executive position with Deltec International Banking Group in Nassau.

Pinder will remain as a Progressive Liberal Party member of Parliament.

The Bahamas plans to cut fuel imports by as much as 5 per cent by building several small solar panel fields after signing on to billionaire Richard Branson’s Caribbean Clean Energy Initiative, according to Bloomberg.

Dec 10, 2014 (Bloomberg) – The Bahamas plans to cut fuel imports by as much as 5 percent by building several small solar panel fields after signing on to billionaire Richard Branson’s Caribbean clean energy initiative.

The solar fields, which will generate as much as 20 megawatts of electricity for the Bahamas’ sparsely populated Family Islands, are part of the government’s plan to move toward renewable energy under Virgin Group founder Branson’s Ten Island Challenge.
