Government delegations head to US, Costa Rica

Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie and a ministerial delegation left for Washington DC yesterday to participate in the inaugural Caribbean Energy Security Summit. Another Ministerial delegation, including the Minister of Financial Services Hope Strachan, will travel to Costa Rica tomorrow to attend the third summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Bahamas Prime Minister and chairman of CARICOM Perry Christie and a ministerial delegation left for Washington DC on Sunday to participate in the inaugural Caribbean Energy Security Summit.

Christie is scheduled to deliver the policy position of both CARICOM and The Bahamas at this summit. The meetings will be held at the Harry S Truman Building, US Department of State.

Government sets up VAT Appeal Commission

The government has completed the appointment of members of the VAT Appeal Commission. The names will be unveiled later this week.

The government has completed the appointment of members of the VAT Appeal Commission. The names will be unveiled this week and include a retired supreme court justice as chairman, a retired senior customs officer and a public accountant.

These individuals will also serve as members of the Customs Appeal Commission.

Abaco Cays Realty announced this week it has hit $100 million in listings with properties ranging from a modest Marsh Harbour home to an historic Hope Town cottage and a $14 million estate set on 17 acres of Man-o-War Cay.

The news comes as the firm launches a new website AbacoCays Realty.com.

“Two weeks into 2015 and there’s a lot of buzz in Abaco. After several years of investors being wary because of worldwide economic uncertainty, we are beginning to see more activity, leading us to be cautiously optimistic as we look to the future,” explains Paul Thompson, a former senior hospitality executive who turned to real estate development in 2006, the same year Abaco Cays Realty was founded.

Bahamas private island sells for $18.7m

New York-based luxury real estate auction firm Concierge Auctions, which serves high-net-worth individuals worldwide, has announced that it has sold Innocence Island, the largest privately held island in The Bahamas, for $18.7 million.

She began by commemorating Majority Rule Day, and stressed that all Bahamians have a special obligation to ensure the nation does not regress in the face of challenges to freedom and safety.
