EYHope Strachan, Minister of Financial Services, addressed a meeting of staff and partners of EY Bahamas at Atlantis Paradise Island, February 10, during which she outlined areas that will receive focused attention for the promotion, growth, and development of The Bahamas’ financial services sector.

In her address, Minister Strachan described measures to increase financial service competitiveness that included facilitation of continuing education and professional certification for high level positions throughout the industry, particularly in taxation and corporate finance.

Prime Minister Perry Christie kicked-off the International Business and Finance Summit with an address at the CEO Dinner at the opening of the event February 5.

The four-day event was organized by the Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) and was held at the Grand Lucayan under the theme: Creating a New Legacy.

During his address, the Prime Minister said it was important to improve and adapt to the environment and new challenges.

Rookie Sei Young Kim, 22, of Korea emerged the winner of the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic, earning her the trophy and a $195,000 cheque.

Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe pledged to continue the relationship with the Ladies Professional Golf Association in hosting the annual Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic over the next three years. He made the announcement during the closing ceremony of the tournament held at the Ocean Club Golf Course yesterday.

The theme of the two-day gathering is “Engaging Global Markets through Entrepreneurship, Investment, Trade and Tourism Platforms.”

It is being held under the auspices of the International Economic Investment & Trade Development Symposium (IEITDS).
