CICAThe 2015 Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) International Conference is being hosted under the theme “Captives: The Strategic Advantage”. The annual event is scheduled for March 8-10 at the Loews Royal Pacific in Orlando.

The Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) and the Insurance Commission of The Bahamas (ICB) will have a presence at the conference, as delegates and exhibitors.

UN Climate Change logoThe Ad hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) met in Geneva, Switzerland, February 8-13.

The UNFCCC is designed to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases that adversely affect climate change. Ambassador Rhoda Jackson, Bahamas permanent representative in Geneva and Philip Weech, director of BEST Commission, represented The Bahamas.

Three companies have applied to operate a new cellular network in The Bahamas as the application process closed this week. The firms are Digicel (Bahamas) Holdings Ltd, Cable Bahamas Ltd and Virgin Mobile Bahamas Ltd. The government will now conduct a competitive selection process which would result in a second cellular mobile operator in the country.

The Crystal Palace Casino closed its doors yesterday in preparation for the opening of the $3.5-billion Baha Mar development on March 27, 2015.

The current Crystal Palace casino team is transitioning to Baha Mar, with approximately 55 employees moving into new positions at the Baha Mar Casino & Hotel, the largest casino in the Caribbean.
