Government leaders arrived in Nassau for the 26th Inter-sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), February 26-27, 2015.

They were met at Lynden Pindling International Airport on Wednesday by Bahamas High Commissioner to CARICOM Picewell Forbes.

BTCanada’s City TV’s largest morning show, Breakfast Television, aired a live broadcast from Freeport Wednesday from Memories Grand Bahama Resort & Casino.

The broadcast took place as a result of the combined efforts of the Ministry of Tourism’s director of Bahamas Tourist Office in Toronto Paul Strachan and Sunwing Properties Grand Bahama, which owns Memories.

The show’s host, Kevin Frankish, interviewed director general of tourism Joy Jibrulu, as well as general manager at Memories Gabriel Varela.

Commonwealth Bank reports 2014 Unaudited Year End Results

Commonwealth Bank, today, reported unaudited total profit of $53 million in 2014. Total assets were $1.47 billion at December 31, 2014. Earnings were up 7 per cent over 2013 when the bank reported total profit of $50 million. Total assets were up 3 per cent over 2013.

“I am pleased with the bank’s results in 2014,” says William Sands Jr, executive chairman of Commonwealth Bank.

Prime Minister Perry Christie February 19 gave the keynote address at the opening of Freeport Insurance Agents & Brokers Ltd.

The Prime Minister congratulated Lawrence Palmer, Donald Ward and Deborah Knowles for opening their new business and added he felt the economy of Freeport will continue to get better.

LPIAA recent Airport Service Quality survey of Lynden Pindling International Airport has shown marked improvements since the completion of the facility’s multi-million dollar redevelopment.

In the final quarter of 2014, LPIA scores on Waiting Time in the Check-in Queue increased from 4.07 to 4.37, Waiting Time at Security Inspection climbed from 4.04 to 4.25, Passport/Personal ID Inspection went from 4.03 to 4.19 and up over Q3 results.

IDBMinister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe February 20 called for Caribbean nations to get more involved in the tourism industry and urged them to look at the region as one.

The Member of Parliament for West End and Bimini addressed delegates and participants attending the 4th Inter-American Development Bank Caribbean Governors Regional Meeting at the Grand Lucayan resort. Prime Minister Perry Christie had officially opened the conclave the day before.

Wilchcombe also called on the IDB to play a greater role in the promotion of the tourism in the region.

The Bahamas and the Inter-American Development Bank yesterday signed a technical cooperation agreement worth $600,000 during the 4th IDB Caribbean Governors Regional Meeting being held at Grand Lucayan, Freeport, yesterday and today.

Prime Minister Perry Christie signed the pact with the IDB to undertake diagnostic studies and identify the ecosystem assets of Andros.

The Prime Minister was in Grand Bahama for the official opening of the meeting. He and IDB president Luis Alberto Moreno signed the agreement shortly after the opening of the conference.clearclear
