Newly appointed BFSB CEO Tanya McCartney says: “We will be actively engaged in conferences, advertising, public relations and other promotional efforts to promote all three sectors throughout the year.”

The fourth LPGA Pure Silk Classic teed off this week at the One&Only Ocean Club Golf Course this week. The tournament will be shown live on the Golf Channel, which reaches 220 million homes in the US, offering enormous exposure and promotional opportunity for The Bahamas.

Breezes refurbishes meeting facilities

Breezes Resort and Spa Bahamas, an all-inclusive resort on Nassau's Cable Beach, has finished a makeover of its six existing meeting spaces and added a new 490 sq ft event space, which holds up to 50 people and boasts floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the ocean.

Breezes logoBreezes Resort & Spa – Bahamas, an all-inclusive resort on Nassau’s Cable Beach, just finished a makeover of its six existing meeting spaces and added a new 490 square foot event space, Panorama Gallery, which holds a maximum of 50 people and boasts floor-to ceiling glass windows and doors overlooking the ocean.

All of Breezes Bahamas’ meeting, conference and ballroom spaces received new chairs, carpets, ceilings, and enhanced solid wooden doors.

Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) can help The Bahamas achieve its economic goals, set out in the country’s National Development Plan, and foster better cooperation between the public and private sector according to Prime Minister Perry Christie who said his government was committed to using PPPs to further The Bahamas’ development.

Speaking at last week’s Bahamas Business Outlook, the Prime Minister said PPPs have an important role to play in the country’s development and highlighted the successful completion of several Family Island infrastructure projects that had resulted from partnerships with the private sector.

The Ministry of Financial Services is stepping up efforts to create an international arbitration hub in The Bahamas, hosting a three-day workshop and continuing with plans to review and amend the relevant legislation.

“The time is right for accelerating our efforts to establish The Bahamas as a commercial arbitration hub,” said Minister of Financial Services Hope Strachan, speaking at the 4th Annual Arbitration and Investment Summit held at the College of The Bahamas last week. “These are exciting times. We have taken the bull by the horns and are now actively engaged with the private sector. This is a long time dream of many professionals [and] we are moving strategically to build an industry of which we can all be proud.”

CHTAJanuary 22, 2016 (Antigua Observer) – The annual Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Market place is under way here with Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie underscoring the importance of the tourism sector to the socio-economic development of the Caribbean.

Christie addressing the three-day event, said that tourism as a direct contribution to Caribbean gross domestic product (GDP) was three per cent in 2015 compared to the worldwide average of 3.7 per cent.

He said the sector as a total contribution to Caribbean GDP rose by 2.9 per cent last year and is expected to increase by 3.3 per cent of GDP per annum each year over the next decade, against the worldwide average of 3.8 per cent.

Sterling Financial GroupNassau-based New Providence Income Fund (NPIF), one of several funds managed by Sterling Financial Group, has been named best fixed income mortgage-backed fund since inception by Acquisitions International (AI), the UK-based magazine publisher.

Sterling’s NPIF took top honors in the fixed income category of a specific array of hedge funds with some 15,000 hedge funds competing for a place in various arenas. NPIF was among those cited by AI’s award programme in conjunction with Barclay’s.

The Prime Minister has called for “a new paradigm in Grand Bahama”, saying that the islands of The Bahamas need to reduce their reliance on subsidies from New Providence.

Delivering the keynote address at the Bahamas Business Outlook this morning, Prime Minister Perry Christie said growing the country’s economy would require “equity in development” and “balanced growth”.
