The Bahamas has received second place prizes at two award shows in Berlin, Germany as officials continue to drive the message that “It’s better in The Bahamas.”

Recently, Bahamas Ministry of Tourism executives traveled to Berlin to attend the ITB Berlin Trade Show – the world’s largest travel trade show – and the Golden City Gate Awards.

The annual awards are coveted international tourism awards, which highlight various destinations.

During the awards, The Bahamas placed second for Voyager – “Funky Nassau” in the category of Music Clips and Music Voyager “Heartbeats of The Bahamas” in the category of TV and Magazine programmes.

Travel journalists in the US were invited to a press luncheon in Atlanta earlier this week to learn more about the tourism offering of the islands. The event was part of a continuing effort to promote the destination to key markets in the US.

Bahamasair welcomes new aircraft

Bahamasair has announced that the airline has welcomed its second new turbo prop aircraft, as a part of the company’s re-fleeting exercise. The new ATR 72-600 (pictured) is the second such 70-seat aircraft to join the national air carrier’s fleet.

BahamasairBahamasair has announced that the airline has welcomed its second new turbo prop, as a part of the company’s re-fleeting exercise. The new ATR 72-600 is the second such 70-seat aircraft to join the fleet.

The aircraft will enter into service over the next several days.

Three ATR 42-600 model planes, which have a 50-seat configuration, are also set to join the fleet.

Atlantis aids turtle conservation effort – photos

Atlantis Paradise Island‘s Marine Aquarium Operations team and The Bahamas Department of Marine Resources recently released approximately 40 two-year-old green sea turtles in waters around New Providence.

The effort is a continuation of a breed and release programme initiated at by the mega-resort to help ensure the longevity of the now endangered species of turtle.

Caribbean ExportThe Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) in collaboration with the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA) will host the 3rd staging of the Caribbean Investment Summit on May 13, 2016 at the Marriott Hotel, Miami.

The event will be funded and co-organised by the Inter-American Development Bank as a part of a Regional Public Goods Initiative entitled: Support to Foreign Direct Investment in the Caribbean.

Grand Lucayan resort goes to auction

HVS Capital Corp has announced that the Grand Lucayan Resort complex is being sold in a Sealed Bid Auction. The 409-acre resort is the largest on Grand Bahama and the third largest in The Bahamas. The owner, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Cheung Kong Property Holdings Ltd, has engaged HVS Capital Corp to act as advisor in the sale.

FREEPORT, Bahamas, March 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — HVS Capital Corp. today announced that the Grand Lucayan Resort complex is being sold in a Sealed Bid Auction. The 409-acre resort is the largest on Grand Bahama Island and the third largest in The Bahamas. The owner, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Cheung Kong Property Holdings Limited, has engaged HVS Capital Corp. to act as advisor in the sale. The seller’s preference is to sell the Grand Lucayan Resort complex as a single transaction. However, bids for individual assets will be considered. There is no reserve price. Additionally, seller-provided purchase-money financing may be available to appropriate bidders. The deadline for submitting bids is June 10, 2016.

Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival is fast approaching and this year’s event promises to be even better than the first, with more opportunities to amp up the music, soak up the culture and turn up the vibes.

All 23 registered companies showcased their Junkanoo Carnival costumes at a preliminary launch event held on New Providence earlier this month. The exhibition, which took place on the Western Esplanade, was an opportunity for the public to sample the music, the culture and the vibes that define Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival. Registered ‘Road Fever’ companies had exhibition booths to display their 2016 costumes and take orders from persons interested in participating in the street party on Saturday, May 6. They also participated in a prejudging for the best application of indigenous material.
