ALT TAG HEREMinister for Grand Bahama Michael Darville, was on hand May 27, to welcome some 189 visitors on the Sunwing inaugural flight to Grand Bahama from Houston, Texas.

Accompanied by Senator Tanesha Tynes, and officials of the Ministry of Tourism, the Minister greeted the guests as they disembarked from Sunwing.

Minister Darville thanked Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe and the staff of the Ministry of Tourism in Grand Bahama for the summer programme which is expected to bring flights to the island from eight US cities.

Silver Airways begins new service to Nassau

Fort Lauderdale-based airline Silver Airways made its inaugural flight from Tampa, Florida to New Providence Thursday adding 25,000 new seats to The Bahamas. Read a report from the Ministry of Tourism here.

Fort Lauderdale-based airline Silver Airways made its inaugural flight from Tampa, Florida to New Providence Thursday adding 25,000 new seats to The Bahamas.

Silver Airways will provide flights from Tampa, Fort Myers, Jacksonville and West Palm Beach, Florida to New Providence.

CBLFollowing an extensive bid process, Cable Bahamas (CBL) has been selected as the provider of the jurisdiction’s second mobile service.

Prime Minister Perry Christie made the announcement in his budget speech in Parliament this week.

The formal announcement follows the completion of negotiations including the commitment to have a separate entity set-up to be licensed. This “NewCo” will be 48.25 per cent owned by CBL and 51.75 per cent owned by “HoldingCo” – both entities will be 100 per cent Bahamian owned.

Sterling GlobalBahamas-based Sterling Global Financial, a company which claims to have supported over $300 million in high-end residential and resort projects around The Bahamas, launched its local bank and trust arm yesterday.

The integrated banking and financial services provider capitalizes select real estate projects through debt and equity lending.

Among the projects in which Sterling has an interest are: The Marriott Hotel in downtown Nassau; Ocean Terrace on West Bay Street; the new luxury condo Thirty/Six on Paradise Island; and the 20-room Sky Beach Club in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera and a private island just off Abaco.

Warwick Paradise Island Bahamas has named industry veteran Benjamin Davis as general manager of the 244-room, adults-only, all-inclusive resort set to open this summer in The Bahamas.

Davis brings 38 years of hospitality industry experience to his new position with the last 17 years spent at Bahamas’ hotels. Davis is working with the executive team from Warwick International Hotels to launch the resort and will oversee every aspect of the day-to-day operations.
