The Office Of The Prime Minister has released a response to a recent public statement by former Baha Mar developer Sarkis Izmirlian. Here follows the full statement:

The Prime Minister received a copy of a recent letter written by Mr. Sarkis Izmirlian to Vice Chairman and President Liu Liange of the Export-Import Bank of China (“CEXIM”) which he made public in a press release. The letter and the press release contain some extraordinary statements.

CHTAThe Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) is urging the region’s tourism industry stakeholders to assist with both immediate and sustained relief efforts to support the people of Haiti and parts of The Bahamas which were hardest hit by Hurricane Mathew this month.

“Our neighbours in Haiti and The Bahamas have borne the brunt of this powerful storm and the recovery and restoration process will be long and difficult,” said Karolin Troubetzkoy, president of the regional trade association.

Travel WeeklyThe private islands and ports in The Bahamas and Haiti are mostly open and sustained only minor damage from Hurricane Matthew, according to cruise lines.

At Holland America Line’s Half Moon Cay, staff recently inspected the island and clean-up efforts are underway. The next scheduled call is by Carnival Valor on Oct. 15, followed by Zuiderdam on Oct. 20.

Likewise, Princess Cays, the private island of Princess Cruises, sustained very little damage during Hurricane Matthew, said spokewoman Brea Burkholz.

Izmirlian reiterates bid for Baha Mar

BMD Holdings Ltd, the former developer of Baha Mar owned by Sarkis Izmirlian, has notified the Export Import Bank of China, as well as Prime Minister Perry Christie, that it is prepared to move forward to purchase the Baha Mar resort, saying it will pay all monies owed to contractors and complete construction swiftly.
