LPIALynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) has been named the joint second best airport in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region by Airports Council International (ACI) as part of the 2016 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards.

LPIA in Nassau receives over 2 million passengers per year.

ASQ Awards are presented to airports whose passengers have rated them the highest over the course of the year. The categories are designated to recognize the achievements of airports of different sizes and in different regions.

Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Perry Christie announced, 7 March, 2017, that Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd –>, with the approval of the Bahamas government, is poised to expand operations by constructing a “world-class” cruise port at Coco Cay, which is part of the Berry Islands.

“Royal Caribbean Cruises had approached the government with the idea to construct a fixed pier at the cay to accommodate better and additional cruise stops to the cay,” Prime Minister Christie said, during a press conference held at the Office of the Prime Minister.

A Heads of Agreement was also signed at the end of the press conference.

The Board of Directors of Commonwealth Bank Ltd has announced a final extraordinary dividend of six cents per share based on 2016 results of $57.4 million in net income.

The extraordinary dividend, approved at the February 2017 Board meeting will be payable on March 22, 2017, with a record date of March 15, 2017 to more than 6,000 shareholders.

The Grand Bahama Shipyard said it will complete work on 10 cruise vessels in the first quarter of 2017, signaling a strong start to the year.

This includes significant propulsion and technical systems overhauls, hull treatment, accommodations and public spaces upgrades and the addition of onboard attractions, said the shipyard in a statement.

VantageThe Ministry of Transport and Aviation has announced the signing of a 4.5-year agreement between Airport Authority and Vantage Bahamas. The company will provide technical expertise to the Leonard M. Thompson International Airport in Marsh Harbour, Abaco.

The agreement took effect March 1, 2017.

Vantage Bahamas is the local subsidiary of Vantage Airport Group, based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The company is currently under an executive management agreement with the Lynden Pindling International Airport since 2007.
