Norwegian Cruise LinesMay 2, 2017 (Miami Today) – County commissioners on Tuesday approved an agreement between Miami-Dade and Norwegian Cruise Lines (Bahamas) Ltd. for construction of a new cruise terminal, expected to cost $100 million, at PortMiami.

The agreement gives the company preferential berthing rights at cruise terminal J for its Prestige Cruise Holdings vessels operated by Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises while providing the county with a minimum annual 45 vessel calls during each fiscal year, according to a memo from Deputy Mayor Jack Osterholt. That’s 15 more than a previous agreement, which had a minimum of 30 Prestige Cruise Holdings vessels (PCH) each fiscal year.

Here follows a statement by the government of The Bahamas on the signing of a Heads of Agreement between the government and Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited (CTFE):

The Government of The Bahamas announces the signing of a Heads of Agreement (attached hereto) between the Government of The Bahamas and CTFE, an 88 year old, family-owned, international business enterprise with significant assets inclusive of the Rosewood Hotel Group, which it owns, and other landmark hotels that it operates in the United States, Europe and other parts of the world. It operates over 60 hotels worldwide and gaming investments and operations in Australia and other developments around the world.

Central Bank lecture set for June

Earlier in the year, The Central Bank of The Bahamas T. Baswell Donaldson Research Prize, and the launch of a competition to select a winning research paper on an economic or policy topic that has direct relevance or application to The Bahamas. The author of the winning paper will receive a $20,000 prize and be invited to give the first TB Donaldson Memorial Lecture on June 30. Entrants have until the end of April to submit their research entries.
