The National Accounts Section of the Department of Statistics has announced that the 2015 GDP in current prices had a positive growth of 2.74 per cent, however the GDP in constant prices decreased by 1.66 per cent.
Clarice Turnquest, acting director of the Statistics Department, said the decline at constant prices was due mainly to decreases in the construction, hotel, mining, manufacturing industries and financial services.
She added that, in contrast, the wholesale & retail trade, banking, real estate, business services and public administration & defense industries displayed positive growth, which mitigated the size of the decrease.
Turnquest said the National Accounts 2015 Report with detailed tables will be available at the end of this month on the Bahamas government website at bahamas.gov.bs/statistics.
