Director general of tourism Joy Jibrilu officially welcomed participants in the Third LPGA Pure Silk Bahamas Classic at the start of the women’s golf tournament on Paradise Island Monday.

The week-long event will culminate with a closing ceremony and trophy presentation on Sunday.

As The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation celebrates 80 years of private sector representation, chairman Gowon Bowe has spoken of the need for greater and more productive partnerships.

Speaking at the Bahamas Business Outlook conference last week, Prime Minister Perry Christie said that performance levels in the tourism sector last year were "encouraging", with an overall growth in arrivals of 3.5 per cent to 5.1 million.
