PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — (The Sports Network) — Gaming regulators and policy makers, casino managers and law enforcement officials will attend the Forum, to be held in The Bahamas, at the Atlantis Paradise Island between 28th and 30th October. Mickey Charles, CEO and President of The Sports Network and one of the most sought after speakers in the industry, will present on effective exploitation of sports betting and gaming opportunities in the Bahamas and the Caribbean at a major international forum.

Senior officials from the government of the Bahamas are due to open the forum with a discussion on the latest changes to local legislation regarding the gaming industry. Their presentations will be followed by a series of sessions led by regulatory and compliance experts from Europe, the Caribbean and the United States.

Over the course of three days, the various presenters will examine a wide variety of gaming-related topics including spotting suspicious sports betting patterns; money laundering risks and enhanced due diligence; cheat intelligence and security infrastructure and; developing effective online and offline gaming regulations.

Effectively tackling such issues will be a key task for the Bahamas and other Caribbean jurisdictions which are currently seeking to expand their gaming industries. According to industry analysts, these countries face a real challenge in ensuring regulation is light enough to allow the sector to grow, while remaining sufficiently rigorous to prevent their becoming a target for criminal groups. According to Mickey Charles, “The Caribbean is a destination for tourists world-wide and being able to gamble at their leisure, whether casino games or sports, presents an enormous opportunity for the whole of the Caribbean. A change in the laissez-faire attitude that permeates the islands will afford them a new, and lucrative, revenue source plus a further incentive for tourists.”

Approximately 100 casino managers, gaming regulators, compliance officers and gaming representatives from the Caribbean,Europe and Latin America are anticipated to attend the forum, to be held at the Atlantis Resort from 28thto 30thOctober. The event is supported by the Bahamas Gaming Board and the Ministry of Tourism, and is being organised by UK consultancy firm the International Governance and Risk Institute (GovRisk).

Charles further indicated that, in recent months, the government of the Bahamas has sought to boost tourism numbers by increasing the scope of permitted gaming activities. A new Gaming Bill, drafted to this end, is currently being debated by parliament and is shortly expected to become law.
